CANNONBALL PROVEN: The Doug Wothke #88 Seat & Saddlebag Set (1928 Indian Scout)
⚠️ Note on Photos: The large "BAD&G" logo seen across the bag in some photos is a digital watermark to protect our images. It is NOT stamped into the leather. Your bag will come with a clean, unbranded finish (or small makers mark only).
The Legend:
In 2012, Doug Wothke (Rider #88) entered the Motorcycle Cannonball Endurance Run—a grueling 3,956-mile race from New York to San Francisco on pre-1930 motorcycles.
Unlike other competitors who had chase trucks and mechanics, Doug rode his 1928 Indian 101 Scout solo. He rode from Alabama to the starting line, completed the race, and carried his entire life on the bike. No support crew. No trailer. Just him and the machine.
The Gear That Made It Possible:
This is the exact Seat and Saddlebag Configuration we built for Doug's run. It was designed for one purpose: Uncompromising Endurance.
The Saddlebags: "The Black Hole" Capacity
When you don't have a chase truck, your saddlebags are your garage, your closet, and your pantry. We built these bags to be massive, rugged, and waterproof.
- Heavy-Duty Construction: Built from our thickest Veg Tan American Steerhide to withstand sun, rain, and road grime for 16 days straight.
- Custom Fitment: Designed specifically to hug the rigid frame of a 1920s Indian Scout without interfering with the chain or exhaust.
- Secure Closure: Featuring triple-strap closures with heavy stainless steel roller buckles to ensure nothing is lost on bumpy backroads.
The Seat: 3,000+ Miles of Comfort
The Cannonball isn't a short hop to the bar. It’s 300+ miles a day on a hardtail. The seat we built for Doug features:
- Ergonomic Pan Shaping: Hand-shaped to support the rider's weight evenly, preventing fatigue.
- High-Density Foam Core: Proven to hold its shape after thousands of miles of abuse.
- Breathable Leather Cover: Keeps the rider cool and prevents the "hot spots" typical of vinyl seats.
"The bike ran great, the gear held up, and I made it to the Pacific." — Doug Wothke
Fitment Note:
This set was custom-patterned for a 1928 Indian 101 Scout. However, we can adapt this "Endurance Touring" design for other vintage Indians, Harley JDs, VLs, or modern heritage models.

ORDERING & SHIPPING
How long does it take to get my order?
Since every item is handmade in our Richmond, VA shop, we don't just pull boxes off a shelf. Most orders ship within 1-3 business days. Custom orders or elaborate tooling may take longer. You will receive a tracking number the moment your label is created.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes! We ship worldwide. We have sent bags to riders in Europe, Australia, Asia, and beyond. Please note that international customers are responsible for any customs duties or import taxes.
FITMENT & INSTALLATION
Will these bags fit my specific bike?
We make both model-specific and universal bags.
- If you see your bike listed in our menu (e.g., "Dyna Saddlebags"), those are designed to fit your specific fender struts and shocks.
- If you have a custom chopper or a bike we don't list, check out our Universal Collection or Contact Us with a photo of your bike.
Do I need to relocate my turn signals?
For most Dyna and Sportster models, our bags are designed to work without relocating turn signals, as long as you are running the stock setup. However, if you have a side-mount license plate or aftermarket indicators, please check the measurements on the product page.
WARRANTY & CARE
What is your warranty?
We offer a Lifetime Warranty on craftsmanship. If a stitch pops or hardware fails due to a defect, we will fix it. We build these to last a lifetime. (See our Warranty Page for full details).
How do I care for the leather?
We use premium vegetable-tanned leather. Like a good pair of boots, it needs to be conditioned occasionally. We recommend using a high-quality leather balm or oil once every few months, or after getting caught in heavy rain.
